CNN has been mourning the death of handwriting in several articles since early August as some 46 states in US have adopted the Common Core Standards, a set of educational guidelines that do not require cursive writing as part of a school's curriculum. Concerned people were behind cursive writing and not calligraphy. Graphology came in early 1900s that could potentially read a person’s character with their handwriting. There is a study that says art of handwriting has been diminishing in recent decades. Apparently sloppy handwritten notes of doctors have claimed lives. What is more required in digitized world – cursive writing or typing? A point of debate... I used write very well during college days. This is what it had become after 9 years of working with computers…
I’m saving this for myself to check in the future. January this year, I had to post my expense report and bills to settle. There was a big line in USPS office in spite of heavy snow. When I made it finally, this lady took my cover and brightened - “That is the most beautiful script I’ve seen in months here… Bless ya… you made my day!!” I wanted to tell her that I can actually do better but simply smiled and accepted the compliment gracefully. There are people who still appreciate good handwriting… It is worth to know this art.
