I dusted the notes of “Krishna nee begane baro…” to play in my Veena for this Jenmashtami, trying to ignore Thamba’s previous comment that “Krishna might run away through the next street had he listen to me playing”… May be Lord Krishna felt the same and changed plans for this year – “Visit me” :) How blessed one has to be close to him on this very special day? We originally planned Tirupathi on a different date but got tickets on this day. It was raining, mist was sneaking up from the evergreen forests of the mighty seven hills, the red sun illuminating the gold dome, Suprabatham as the background music – there are special moments when you feel close to God…
The highlight of the trip turned out to be Padmavathy Thaiyar… Tiruchanoor is mostly visited in a hurry – more as a custom. We were lucky enough to be there on early morning this time. There was this lady standing before in the queue before me as we wait for the gates to be opened. The temple organizers asked the ladies to get in first. We went in and before we make the serpentine rounds, they asked for tickets. This lady said it is with her husband and they asked her to wait. We went in. Just before entering the sanctum sanctorum, they were doing pooja for the steps. As the pooja got over, this priest asked me to step with right foot as my first step and asked me stand in a special place as we entered. Once the pooja is over, the priest blessed me with Sadari for more than a minute chanting mantras and gave me a long strand of jasmine flowers with kungumam. I never knew about this custom… It was absolutely overwhelming – I felt something more than happiness coursing through my veins…
